Death Star Strain THCa Flower – Living Soil Exotic AAA
Some strains come and go. Death Star is one of the ones that stays with you.
This was one of the original THCa strains that put Sherlocks on the map. If you were shopping with us in the early days, you know what Death Star meant to this store. Now it’s back — grown in living soil by our Southern California partner farm — and it’s better than the version you remember. Dense, dark, frosted. The moment you open the jar the room changes.
Sour Diesel crossed with Sensi Star, created in the early 2000s by Team Death Star and featured in High Times in 2010. A 75/25 indica-dominant hybrid that smells like sweet skunk and jet fuel and hits like the name implies. Long-lasting, heavy, euphoric, and deeply relaxing. Not for first-timers. For everyone else — welcome back.
From the Farm — Notes on Death Star
“Death Star is the most politically complicated plant I grow.
Every other strain in the living soil beds follows a predictable rhythm — you read the canopy, you know where you are in the cycle, you manage accordingly. Death Star refuses to telegraph anything. She holds her resin completely internally through week four, five, even six of flower, and you start to wonder if this run is going to be the one that disappoints you. Then, sometime between day 45 and day 50, she externalizes everything simultaneously — trichomes erupt across the entire canopy in what looks like a single overnight event. In fifteen years of growing I have never seen another strain save it all for that moment.
The living soil really matters here. I ran Death Star in coco for two seasons before I understood what I was missing. The skunk baseline in the terpene profile — that classic 90s skunk that you almost never smell anymore — lives in the soil relationship. Strip the biology and you get diesel. Keep the biology and the skunk comes back. It’s the terroir expression of a strain most people have only ever tasted without its soil intact.
Personal tasting note: The inhale is the diesel everyone knows. But there is a three-second window on the exhale — right before the warmth settles in — where it tastes like cold black coffee and sweet tobacco. Not smoke. Not heat. Just that note. I have been chasing an explanation for it for years and I still don’t have one.” — Southern California partner farm.
That three-second window. Cold black coffee and sweet tobacco. That’s the Death Star that lived in the living soil.
About This Farm
Our Southern California partner farm grows no-till in living soil with organic inputs and carefully managed soil biology developed over more than a decade of continuous cultivation on the same land. Death Star is one of the strains they return to every season because, in their words, she always has something left to teach.
Death Star Strain Genetics
Sensi Star x Sour Diesel | Bred by Team Death Star | 75% Indica, 25% Sativa | Featured in High Times, 2010
Sensi Star, bred by Paradise Seeds, is one of the most decorated indica genetics in European cannabis history — multiple Cannabis Cup wins in the late 1990s and early 2000s, dense bud structure, earthy skunk baseline, hashy spice, and a deep physical body effect that grounds the entire experience. It is the foundation that keeps Death Star planted.
Sour Diesel, originating from the East Coast in the early 1990s from a Chemdog 91 x Super Skunk x DNL lineage, drives the sharp diesel fuel top note, the sativa-leaning cerebral lift that opens the high, and the long-lasting pungent aroma that makes Death Star immediately recognizable in any room.
Together they created something that has outlasted decades of hype cycles and trend strains. Death Star is still here because it works. And in living soil, the skunk that made it famous comes back in a way coco and synthetic nutrients simply cannot produce.

Aroma and Flavor
You know it the second the jar opens. Sweet skunk hits first. Then the diesel. Then an earthy, skunky depth that builds and stays.
Aroma: Sweet skunk, jet fuel diesel, earthy herbal depth underneath. The classic 90s skunk note that most living soil cultivation brings back in Death Star — louder and more present than in any synthetically grown version.
Inhale: Pungent diesel and sweet skunk — loud and immediate.
Mid-Palate: Earthy spice and herbal depth.
Exhale: A three-second window of cold black coffee and sweet tobacco before the warmth settles in. Then long, lingering diesel and skunky warmth that hangs in the air.
Not a candy strain. Not a dessert strain. This is old-school gas — the real thing.
Terpene Profile
Myrcene — earthy musk, heavy body relaxation, the sedative depth that anchors the indica character. The compound most responsible for bringing the classic skunk baseline back in living soil.
Caryophyllene — spicy, peppery fuel depth, stress relief, and the body ease that makes Death Star so effective as an end-of-day strain.
Limonene — citrus brightness that lifts the diesel and keeps the cerebral opening from collapsing into pure sedation too quickly.
Humulene — woody, earthy depth that connects the skunk and diesel profiles into something coherent and complex.
Effects
The high builds. Death Star doesn’t hit all at once — it creeps in the way its namesake comes out of hyperspace. The Sour Diesel genetics open things up with a euphoric cerebral lift that feels clean and spacious. Then the Sensi Star indica takes over. Sleepy, relaxed, heavy-bodied, and completely at ease. Long-lasting. This is an evening strain and it is serious about it.
The euphoria comes first and it’s genuine — not anxious, not racing, just settled and content. The body follows. By the end of a session with Death Star, you are where you wanted to be.
Start with one hit if you haven’t had Death Star in a while. It respects patience.
