The Best THCa Flower Strains of May 2026

Featured image for “The Best THCa Flower Strains of May 2026”

Every month we’re going to publish this post. Because the menu changes, new drops come in, and the strains worth talking about in May aren’t always the same ones worth talking about in August. If you want to know what’s actually worth ordering right now, this is where we put it.

Here’s what we’re watching in May 2026.

Purple Certz — #1 Reviewer Pick, Living Soil Exotic AAA

Purple Certz has held the top reviewer spot longer than anything else on our menu, and it earns it every time we restock. Dense, deeply purple structure, terpene profile that leans sweet and gassy with a creamy exhale, and effects that sit in that ideal hybrid range — present and functional without being overwhelming. Michael Z put it well in his review: “high levels of terpenes, very fresh and sticky.” John Streck photographed his order and wrote about it in detail because, his words, the flower was “nostalgic and beyond what I was expecting.” When customers are photographing your product to look at while they enjoy it, that’s a signal worth paying attention to.

Purple Certz is available by the gram up to a full ounce. If you’ve been on the fence, May is a good time to try it while it’s in stock.

GMZ — #1 Staff Pick, Living Soil Exotic AAA

GMZ is our staff’s current pick and has been for a while. The nose is immediately recognizable — deep, funky, gassy with a sweetness underneath that keeps it from being one-dimensional. Effects are heavy but not sedative, the kind of indica-leaning experience that makes an evening feel like an evening without putting you on the couch. Our staff doesn’t hand out the top pick lightly. If you want to know what the people who smell and handle this flower every day are choosing for themselves, it’s this one.

Skunk #1 — #2 Reviewer Pick, Living Soil Exotic AAA

Skunk #1 is a landrace strain that most of the current THCa market has moved away from in favor of newer genetics. We carry it because classic genetics grown right in living soil are a different experience from the same strain grown conventionally — and because there’s a significant audience of experienced consumers who’ve been chasing the real Skunk #1 profile for years and kept finding pale imitations. This is the genuine article. Pungent, skunky, unmistakably itself. If you know, you know. If you don’t, this is worth trying once just to understand what the reference point is.

Seeds of Kismet Drop — Exclusive NC-Grown Living Soil, May 2026

Five cultivars from our exclusive NC farm partner James Farmer of Seeds of Kismet — available only through Sesh at Sherlocks, nowhere else in the state. All five are currently in stock and moving. Here’s where each one sits right now:

Garlic Cocktail is the one generating the most conversation. GMO x Mimosa — garlicky gas with sour tangerine and anise underneath, finishing almost fizzy and extremely funky. James describes it as “a deeply weird funky sweet rotten combo that you can’t quite get used to.” Customers who try it keep coming back for it. This is the strain for people who want something genuinely unusual.

E85 has recently jumped in popularity at James’s competition booth and it’s doing the same thing here. Wedding Cake x Project 451 — gassy and fuely with creamy vanilla and apricot underneath. Easy, uplifted, all-day. A creeper that rewards patience. If you want something you can smoke in the morning and still function, this is it.

Chernobyl x Vietnamese Black is for the sativa consumers who’ve been disappointed by everything labeled sativa for the last few years. Powerfully uplifting, almost ceilingless, energizing and euphoric. The nose burns the nose — strong chemical lime with noodles and metallic cleaner. Sister to the winner of the February Fire 2022 Sativa Cup. That’s not marketing copy, that’s competition pedigree.

Sherb Cream Pie is the indica of the drop — Ice Cream Cake x Sherb BX1, 70/30, long-lasting deep relaxation with a sweet greasy cake nose that coats the palate. If you’re looking for something to end the day with, this is the one.

90’s Slurricane is James’s personal favorite in the drop, Slurricane x 90’s Dutch Afghani, perfectly balanced with a deep funky medicinal nose and a hashy tropical exhale. For consumers who want something that sits between the extremes — not a pure sativa, not a pure indica, just a really good smoke that delivers every time.

All five are available by the gram up to an ounce. When they sell out, they’re gone until the next harvest.

What’s Worth Watching on the Rosin Side

Our cold-cured live hash rosin menu is rotating right now with small-batch drops from Oregon and Colorado partners. Hash Burger — named Leafly’s 2025 Strain of the Year — is currently in stock and worth grabbing if you haven’t tried it. The rosin menu moves faster than flower and doesn’t always come back when it sells out. Check the concentrates page for current availability.

How We Pick These

Every strain on this list is something staff has opened, evaluated, and decided is worth recommending by name. We don’t publish a best-of list to move inventory — we publish it because we carry enough strains that the menu can feel overwhelming, and a monthly editorial opinion about what’s worth your attention right now is genuinely useful.

Next month’s list will look different. That’s the point.
